FAQs BSE ON-LINE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM (BOSS)

The Exchange has inaugurated the On-line Surveillance System christened BOSS (BSE On-line Surveillance System) with effect from July 15, 1999. The BOSS is a truly real-time system, in that there is insignificant delay in processing trading and Order data and generating ‘Alerts’. The alerts are generated on the basis of verifications in prices and volumes in scrips and outstanding positions of members. These alerts are verified with the data bases pertaining to issuers, securities and members and immediate investigations are done and corrective action taken, wherever considered necessary. The system works much faster than the peak trading engine transaction speed.

BOSS will increase transparency, reduce settlement risks and will also reduce the ability of market participants to influence prices. This system will further help in building investor confidence.
